SUGGESTIONS AND OFFERING
Hello everyone. today, I'll give you an explanation about asking & giving suggestions and offering to do something.
for more details, let's look at my explanation and examples.
while the offer is an offer given to others in the form of assistance or other things such as offering food or drinks where the person we offer may accept or reject the offer.
An asking suggestion is a way for someone to ask for a device in English when they have a problem.
many expressions can be used to ask for a suggestion. one way to do this is to use the word "shall", which means next.
shall I / We + verb 1examples :
shall we go home early?
shall I apologize to her?
shall I get a new job?
what shall I say to my parents?
in addition to the example of answering above using the word "shall", another example of answering to ask for suggestion is :
should I go to the clinic?
what should I do?
do you have any suggestions?
what do you recommend?
do you have any idea?
giving suggestions is a way for someone to give advice to others by using English.
one way to give suggestion is to use expressions like :
you should + verb 1
examples :
you should see the doctor
you should finish your job immediately for further explanation, you can see at pictures below
when we agree and accept the advice given by someone we can say :
sounds great
sounds good to me
that's a good idea
let's do that
I'm up for it
DECLINING A SUGGESTION
when we disagree and think the advice given is not good enough, we can say :
maybe some other time
I don't think it's a good idea
I'm not sure about that
😊😊
GIVING OFFER
some examples of expressions giving offers that we can use are as follows :
would you like + noun/infinitive
examples :
would you like a glass of orange juice?
would you like to go to the cinema with me?
For example,
can / may I help you?
what can I do for you?
may I give you a ride?
do you want more coffee?
ACCEPTING AN OFFER
If we want to accept someone's offer we can say :
yes, I'd love to
sure, thank you
yes please, thank you
that's very kind of you
that would be very nice
DECLINING AN OFFER
when we reject an offer, someone refuses us gently and politely. for example, we can say:
thank you for your kindness, but I can handle it
I'm sorry I can't
thank you, but I'm not hungry/thirsty
no, but thank you for the offer.
that is the explanation about asking & giving suggestions and offering to do something.
next, I want to give an example of a suggestion.
example dialogue about a suggestion
- oke next, example dialogue about offering to do something
Aldo: Hei Vicky, why do you look so sad?
Vicky: I have a serious problem today. I have just lost my wallet.
Aldo: Really? Where did you lose it?
Vicky: Hmm… Maybe in the park.
Aldo: I think you should be more careful with your
belongings.
Vicky: Yeah, I think so. This is my fault.
Aldo: Don’t be sad Vicky. I hope you can find it really
soon.
Vicky: Thank you, Aldo. Do you have any suggestions for me?
Aldo: If I may suggest, you should go to the park and look
for it more detail.
Vicky: I have looked for it for hours but I did not find
it. Do you have another suggestion?
Aldo: Hmm… You would better tell the securities to help you
to find it and also announce it to the visitors.
Vicky: Yeah you are right. I will try it. Thank you for
your suggestions.
Aldo: You are welcome Vicky. Next time, it is better for you to keep your important stuff in a safe place.
Vicky: Certainly bro.
✨conclusion :
from the dialogue above which is an expression of
suggestion, that is :
(giving suggestion)
(asking suggestion)
Aldo: Hi Vicky, are you okay?
Vicky: umm, I don’t think so Aldo, I think I got a stomach ache.
Aldo: That is okay Vicky, let me help you. I can take you to the Medical Room,
so you can get the first aid.
Vicky: Is that okay Aldo?
Aldo: Yeah, for sure. It is not a big problem.
Vicky: Thank you very much, Aldo, it is really helpful.
Aldo: Yes, no problem Vicky.
✨conclusion :
